Time Management and College: It May Just Be the Deciding Factor

Assuming You Are Normal

Before you became a student you more than likely filled every single minute of your day with some activity.

Furthermore, if you belong to the ever-increasing population of nontraditional students, these activities more than likely included doing things with or for a spouse as well as a kid or two.

Now That You’re a Student

You may be struggling to portion off…redirect, if you will…some of that formerly claimed time for studying.

Not only is it doable but it’s critical for your college success. In other words, your time management, or lack of it, will probably be the deciding factor for your college success, or lack of it.

College Is Going to Require Time

Lots and lots of time. You’re going to have to confiscate time to study, to attend class, to complete projects, and to do research. And that doesn’t even take into account any extra-curricular activities. (There are…after all…some iron-pumping moms who belong to college gyms.)

To This End, How You Manage Your Time

Becomes the critical factor in your success as a student.

If you manage your time wisely you have the time available to study. Ergo, you can make good grades on tests, quizzes, and finals. If you don’t you’ll go into class stressed, maybe even sick (stress can make you physically ill), but at the very least feeling the effects of a lack of sleep that cramming and the resultant stress causes.

I realize that online classes are becoming more common but I’ve always been the brick-and-mortar type of gal. I needed the requirement of having to be somewhere at a certain time. Irregardless, whether you attend traditional classes or online, time is still going to need to be available.

Don’t forget the inevitable project that professors never fail to assign. The ones I hated were the group ones. You always have a slacker…I kid you not! Do not EVER think that you’re going to get away with only doing your share because you won’t…unless YOU are the slacker, which I sincerely hope you’re not.

Finally, if you manage your time wisely you can do sufficient research and generate at least sufficient research papers.

So, As You Can See

Time management really can be the deciding factor in your success in college. Those who view college as a priority will prioritize their time…those who don’t won’t. And believe me…your grades will show which group you’re in.
