Time Management and Students: Areas to Begin

Having Been a Student

For many more years of my life than I’d care to admit, I know that focusing on time management in just a few key areas would be much more beneficial than trying to change your whole life.

Put more simply, even though you feel as if your life is nothing but a spiral, making simple changes in just a few areas would absolutely transform your life…not to mention your stress levels.

The Keys Areas and Possible Changes Are:

  • Spouse/Kids/Other
    • Plan time for kids. This equals better quality time. At the same time they’re learning patience as a result of not always having immediate access to you.
    • Remind them of what you’re working for as it’s easy for them to forget. Have them print out a picture of their ideal bedroom, or swing set, or something that your better job will allow them to obtain. Remember, depending on their age…in their mind it really is all about them.
    • Nurture your romantic relationship.
  • Family/Friends
    • Let them help you study…maybe while exercising (walk the bridge anyone?).
    • Sometimes you may have to let them go for a while if they can’t understand or accept that you’re working for something greater.
  • Housework/Laundry
    • Learn speed cleaning techniques.
    • Learn to live with lowered standards.
    • Don’t save all laundry to do on one day.
  • Cooking
    • Menus are an absolute life-saver.
    • Crockpot cooking. I’m convinced the creation of the crockpot was the direct result of divine inspiration.
    • Batch cooking rocks. The last time I made meatloaf I put an additional 7…yep, as in one more than 6…in the freezer. I still have 2 in there.

There you have them. Those are, as I see them, the major problem areas. If you can make small incremental changes in those areas then your life would be much easier. You’d have more time and less stress.

In other words, small changes in these areas can equate to huge changes in your life in general.

Bonus!

What you learn now under pressure of being a time-starved student will stay with you long after graduation. These changes you implement now will improve your life for as long as you live. You can begin now to lay a firm foundation in time management within these key areas and build on them throughout your life.
